Another win for LED lighting

The Cold Canyon Material Recovery Facility in San Luis Obispo, Calif. recently got an upgrade to solid-state lighting that saves it more than $13,000 annually.

The facility, run by Waste Connections, Inc., upgraded its lighting system with Cree-powered Xeralux LED high-bay fixtures. The Xeralux fixtures use Cree XLamp XP-G LEDs. The Xeralux Light Engine for High Bay replaced more than 80 400-W metal halide lamps, sockets and ballasts.

Waste Connections figures the move saves 260 to 285 kWh/day. As a result, Waste Connections anticipates a payback time of less than three years and the virtual elimination of maintenance due to the 50,000 hour projected lifetime of the installed products.

Xeralux Light Engines are LED upgrade kits that replace the bulb, ballast and reflector in virtually any 50 to 750-W commercial outdoor area light fixture.
